English

I arrived with nothing, just faith and an accent,an Argentine, lost in the slow Adriatic. They told me dobrodošao, welcome, I smiled without understanding, but I soon learned how much it costs to be liked.

Sjedni, pričaj, smiri stvari: sit down, talk, calm things down, crossfire fights at the family table.Govore brzo, they talk fast, they shout non-stop,I translate glances I can't explain.

Ne razumijem, I don't understand, but I listen anyway,I have to be the strong one, the neutral one.Sve je na meni, it's all on me, everything runs through me,a free therapist… na tuđem jeziku, in a foreign tongue.

Na tuđem jeziku, in a foreign tongue,I learned to endure.Bez riječi, without words, when I couldn't speak.I gave my body, I gave my voice, even though it wasn't my war,i nije moj dom, and it isn't my home.

A hard summer, campsite and sun, radim cijeli dan, I work all day, no rest, no control. The father talks, the mother too, stalno svađe, always fighting, nothing is ever right.

And there I am, saying "let's calm down","we can talk, we can fix this now".They shout, I translate peace, but language alone can't carry it anymore.

"You need to understand""This is how we are""Don't take it personal""It's just family scars"

And me, thinking:a tko sam ja? and who am I?and who am I here?

Na tuđem jeziku, in a foreign tongue, that's how I got strong.Gutam sve, I swallow it all,but I didn't lose myself.I took the noise, the heat, but nobody askskako sam ja, how I'm doing.

Europe was over, a plane south,an Argentine ljeto, a summer, I was hoping for light. My mum is waiting, my people too,but she wants to be far away from him.

Ne poštuje, she doesn't respect, she doesn't know how to look, hladno ponašanje, cold behaviour, nothing matters to her.She doesn't want the tables, she doesn't want to be there, pokvarila put, she ruined the trip, she made it heavy on me.

I crossed seas, I crossed languages,za nas, for us, for our story. But when it was my turn to be backed up,nije mogla, she couldn't, she didn't understand.

It wasn't Croatia,it wasn't Argentina.It was respect.It was family.

Na tuđem jeziku, in a foreign tongue,I learned to stand my ground.Dosta je, enough,I won't go begging.I'm not the translator of endless fights,I'm a loyal guy,i to je to, and that's that.

Nisam kriv. I'm not to blame.Nisam slab. I'm not weak.I was just speakingna tuđem jeziku, in a foreign tongue.
